I fed it the second piece of food and my character did the animation, but for some reason I was awarded with a gold brick. However, the button prompt to feed it was still showing. I took it over to the gallimimus but the gallimimus wasn't there. After that, I ended up finding another piece of food for the gallimimus. I unlocked the raptor, went back to the puzzle and completed it. Once I realized I needed the Velociraptor unlocked to finish that puzzle, I looked up how to unlock it and went into the mission that I needed to in free play to get the raptor Amber. I then notice another collectable activity behind me and abandoned the gallimimus for a while to go do that. On I picked up the food, the interaction point with the gallimimus appeared. I found a piece of food the gallimimus wanted before I actually triggered an interaction with the gallimimus.
